When to book your flight

A L O H A !

A great resource for booking flights came to light just this past week, due to the New York Times article called “Crunching the Numbers to Find the Best Airfare“. Feel free to take a peek at the full article if you want the full low-down, however, Hopper* is truly the golden nugget of it all. Hopper is a wonderfully awesome statistic driven site gives you the inside look on when the cheapest flights are, what the most popular dates to fly to a certain destination, and lots of other valuable information. We highly recommend that you spend a little time on the site, plugging in some numbers.

Some important things to note:

Being that our wedding date is Wednesday, 9/24/14, I would try to make sure that you get here a couple of days before the wedding. We are trying to arrange a group activity on 9/22/14, and would love if most could join in.

There are a couple other very small airports on Maui, but the airport you want to fly into is Kahului, or airport code OGG.

We will try to greet as many people as we possibly can at the airport, but since there are a lot of factors at play, please note that Maui’s Public transit system is pretty much non-existent. Also, cabs aren’t necessarily readily available, and are super duper pricy if you do get one…so your best bet is to get a rental car straight away. The cheapest (and pretty much most awesome car rental company, due to the fact that they have a number of friendly cats hanging in and around the rental office) is Kihei Rent-a-Car. They are located in Kihei (pronounced Key-hay), not at the airport, but they do offer pickup service. They are AWESOME and during the summer season, have cars at $130 a week! Keep in mind, Kihei Rent-a-Car mostly rents “Maui cruisers” or beat-up, ugly cars. You won’t travel in luxury if you rent from there. The other car companies gouge you and try to up-sell you at every angle.

*Please note that Hopper refers to the city you are flying into as Paia (Pie-ee-uh). Paia is a little town near the airport, but not where you are flying into.

Here are some of the Hopper statistics first, for Cleveland (CLE) to Kahului (pronounced Kah-who-louie), Maui (OGG):

Here are the stats for Chicago (ORD) to Kahului, Maui (OGG):

These reports were generated from www.hopper.com, using their third option on the right side of the screen, called When to Fly and Buy. When you do it from home, you can actually click on the “Find Flights” part of the report and allow you to put in specific dates for real flight options. Nice. Keep us up to date with what deals you find. We will gladly share them here to spread the word!

I know, probably not. Who cares? When’s the last time I asked you how work was going? Just in case, here’s a nice little write up on a blog called Hawaii Wedding Love about us :)

Win a trip to Maui

Hey everyone! We are getting married at Kukahiko Estate on September 24, 2014. The ceremony will be small, but super fun! We have had the pleasure of spending a lot of time at Kukahiko Estate, and are very excited to have the opportunity to invite our family and friends to this magical place to celebrate together. We will be periodically adding helpful info to kentanddarlene.com to help you with the planning your trip.

Aloha!

Save-The-Date

Christmas 2013

We love spending Christmas at Carolina and Rodrigo’s – who love Christmas and parties more than anyone we know!

Engaged!

Well, it’s official. Kent changed my life once again. It was my 30th birthday, at sunset, at Keawakapu beach on the island of Maui that we are so lucky to call our home. The ring, the night, and the guy is perfect. I can’t express how happy and excited I am to spend the rest of my life with my best friend.

Kent, full of surprises, also threw me a surprise birthday party. He’s the best.

Jennie + Joe love Hawaii!

Jenn and Joe’s first time on Hawaiian soil was fun and memorable. We had an amazing time – from a road trip to Hana, to snorkeling with two turtles and kayaking with whales…we all gained experiences that we will never forget. Oh, and here’s a little video made from short snorkeling video and Jenn and Joe’s Canon underwater camera. :)

Can’t wait to see them again here on Maui!

Deb-or-ah is coming, to town!

Deb came to visit. We made the most of every moment…we went on a helicopter ride, a whale watch in kayaks, went on a hike through the 200-year-old lava fields (La Perouse), and went snorkeling. We even all stayed a night at the Four Seasons, using a complimentary night earned from a video project. We dined at Ferraro’s, spent an amazing day at the Serenity Pool, and had quite a bit of Bloody Marys in the sun. Come back soon, Deb!
